Personal Statement Posted at Nipate.com

I have not been posting here or at any BB for a number of days. I must say I did not expect to like it so much. As a result, I have decided it is going to move towards permanency.

I feel that I have done my part in promoting the culture of debate among citizens of the Fatherland. Those who have followed both the style and content have learned something. I hope they have discovered that debating following set rules and guidelines remains superior to any kind of debate. There have been moments when I have fallen victim to my own sword for example where I have resorted to ad hominem and thrown a number of bricks. For that I apologize to those I have hit fairly and unfairly. For ad hominem is the surest way to lose a debate! It has been amazing that I have hitherto not really suffered the effects perhaps because my interlocutors believed more in ad hominem than I did and hence I kept the upper hand. If I appear boastful to you then I have lost you along the way: Nobody can be proud of ad hominem. Its employment is usually the final proof that the debater has nothing more to offer and it serves as an open invitation for the other party to go for the kill. Let's hope far from becoming a "nickname" it will help to steer Kenyans away from dirty politics to issue-oriented politics.

One may wonder why I choose to mention ad hominem out of the many things I have encountered: The reason is simple Ad hominem is ruining Kenya and will indeed be the COD (Cause of Death) of the country. The ongoing debate in Kenya between the Ocampo six and others is pure ad hominem. Some of the insults used have become choice words for a number of netters; Kibaki himself (and who can accuse me of ever loving Kibaki) pleased me for a while when he remarked that "how can you pray to God in the midst of all the matusi (ad hominem)?" It was recognition by Kibaki of the harm that ad hominem is doing to Kenya.

I leave knowing that to some the term means nothing beyond Omollo. Hopefully some will pick up the crusade against ad hominem and by that promote debate based on ideas.

I am not leaving Nipate or TOP. I shall hang around but I shall fight hard not to contribute. Once in a while I shall post something here or at my new blog: http://omollosview.blogspot.com/ Feel free to drop by. I shall eventually take this down perhaps at the end of the year.

I know in a moment of anger I offered to sponsor anybody to start a BB. I have since received many requests. I did buy a disposable credit card at a supermarket with the aim of going through with it. But then I asked myself what site would be founded on anger and survive once the anger is spent? The world is full of monuments to such anger with only a few managing to survive and prosper.

I shall use some of my time to complete a number of personal projects.

I believe God said: Go ye debate! But I now realized that he told everybody not just Omollo! Let’s say my period of online debating is over.

I wish you all well.

Nairobi pundit I would appreciate if you lock this topic as I shall not have the opportunity to reply.
